As this shameful #TaxReformBill moves through Congress, inform yourself on the impact on working families http://ow.ly/ToD530h4IpN. Call Congress at 202-224-3121 and tell them not to make children and families pay for tax cuts for wealthy individuals and corporations. #TaxBillScam

The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. s Early Care and Education Institute held its 11th Annual Early Care and Education Conference on Saturday, November 16, 2013, from 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. at Scholastic. The conference is the only one of its kind in New York City held in Spanish and attracts approximately 100 child care professionals/providers from the five boroughs. Check out some great photos from the event! Conference speakers included Dr. Zoila Tazi, Associate Professor and Department Chair at Mercy College s Childhood Education Department; Elba Montalvo, CHCF President/CEO; Dr. Luis Reyes, Research Associate at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies/Centro De Estudios Puertorriqueños of Hunter College, CUNY ; Natalie Ferrell, School Design, NYC Department of Education; Dr. Bernice Moro, Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network at Fordham Graduation School of Education; Gladys Reyes, Child Care Provider; Jannely Reyes, Child Care Provider; Vanessa Ramos, CHCF’s Senior Director for Policy; Andrea Maldonado, CHCF Infant-Toddler Specialist; Karla Coreas, EarlyLearn Network Specialist; and Carlos Sebastián Guzmán, Account Manager, NYC Business Solutions; and a performance by Walter Ventosilla, Instituto Arte Teatral Internacional. CHCF’s Institute improves New York City children’s quality of care and early education through the professional and leadership development of educators and families. The Institute makes high quality educational child care accessible by equipping child care providers with the skills necessary to be self-sustaining small business owners and effective early educators of the children in their care and by helping families find quality child care that meets their needs. CHCF s Institute trains Spanish-speaking child care providers in child care and early education best practices; facilitates providers access to training scholarships and business start-up grants; connects families to culturally and linguistically competent child care services; and advises families about their eligibility for child care subsidies.
