PRESS RELEASE Topic: Road Sector Development Master Plan underway. The Ministry of Works and Housing (MWH) now invites interested eligible consulting firms to submit Expressions of Interest indicating qualification and experience required to provide services to establish a Road Sector Development Master Plan for Antigua and Barbuda. The overall objective of the consultancy is to enhance MWH’s capacity to strategically improve planning, efficiency, social inclusion, climate resilience and management of the road infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda. Public Relations Officer with the Project Implementation Unit Shawn Thomas said: “A multi-disciplinary consultancy firm will be brought on board to assist with efforts to ensure that rehabilitated roads will meet international standards and that the construction is done through best practices. Expertise in civil engineering, hydrology, road engineering, surveying, geographic information systems, disaster risk management, climate change and environmental service will be required. A social and gender development specialist will be contracted to perform specific services to undertake this Master Plan.” Mr. Thomas Concluded. The plan is to have the consultancy services rolled out in two Phases. The first phase will include analytical studies with emphasis on the government policies and the structure of the local road network while phase two of the master plan will include instructional and capacity building as well as investment and upgrades of the master plan for four to five years. The duration of the assignment is expected to be for a period of nine (9) months. The Road Rehabilitation Project is being made possible through grant funding of 13.9 million pounds from the United Kingdom Caribbean infrastructure Partnership Fund, with financing arrangements through the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).
